Frankie Lugene “Gene” Prince, 86, of Greenville peacefully went home to be with the Lord on August 14, 2011 at his home. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Hailes officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City.
Gene was born December 7, 1924 in Aspermont, Texas to Frank and Lurene (Fox) Prince. He was married to his soul mate Jimmie Marie Mankin on December 8, 1944 in Hugo, Oklahoma.
Gene proudly served his country in the Army during World War II. He enjoyed sharing stories about his time spent over seas. His favorite story was about his train ride home to see his bride. He fell asleep on the train and slept through his stop in Greenville. When he woke up and realized what had happened the train was in Caddo Mills. They would not stop the train, so he jumped off and walked back to Greenville.
Gene was a product of the great depression and was not afraid of hard work. He was employed by E-Systems in quality control for 36 years. He was most proud of the work he did with the presidential fleet of planes. When he was not working at E-Systems, he could be found working on the family farm or spending time with his family that he loved so dearly.
Gene was an active member at Park Street Baptist Church. He loved the message of the Lord and often reached out to others.
Gene is survived by his wife of 67 years, son Michael Prince and wife, Yafet of Greenville; daughters Linda Shore of Dallas and Kimberly Stewart and husband Scott of Commerce; six grandchildren Stacey Aldrine, Michael Gene Prince, Jr., Ryan Shore, Jasmine Prince, Kayla Prince, and Jordan Weiss; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers Harold Wayne Prince of Andrews and Billie Joe Prince of Campbell; sisters Mary Frances Julian of Mineola and Elsie McAnn of Commerce; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Shore, Michael Gene Prince, Jr., Fritz Aldrine, Will Holleman, Scott Stewart, Jeremy Lovelace, Mike Prince and Tom Coughlin. Honorary pallbearers will be the Park Street Baptist Senior Adult Men’s Sunday School Class.
