Sally Fred Turner, 96 years old, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 28, 2010.  Services celebrating her life will be at 11:00 a.m. at Coker Mathews Funeral Home with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00.  Burial will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park.

“Sally Fred” was born Wilma Madge McClelland in the Floyd community on July 30, 1914, the daughter of Hugh and Callie McClelland.  She attended Hopewell and Floyd schools and married Fred Turner, son of longtime Floyd residents Kyle and Martha Turner, on June 22, 1935.  They were active members of the community and Floyd United Methodist Church for many years.  Fred preceded her in death in March, 1967.

After her husband’s death, she moved to Greenville where she managed Sew-n-Sew fabric store for several years before being elected Hunt County Treasurer. She served in that office for eight years in the 1970s.

After moving to Greenville, she joined Johnson Street Church of Christ where she had been an active member until failing health prevented her from attending.  She had a keen interest in family, church, politics and sports.  She also loved fashion and antiques. There was nothing she enjoyed more than combing through garage and estate sales.

Sally was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four sisters, two brothers and granddaughter Kelly Rhodes.  She is survived by her son Jerry Turner and wife Barbara of Garland, daughter Kay King and husband Walter of Richardson, daughter Carol Petty and husband Dan of Greenville, grandson Ryan Rhodes and wife Sarah Nelson of Fort Worth, and grandson Blake Rhodes and wife Ysenia of Austin.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Turner, Walter King, Dan Petty, Ryan Rhodes, Blake Rhodes and Dean Petty.  The family request in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Kelly Rhodes Scholarship fund at Kavanaugh United Methodist Church, 2516 Park Street, Greenville, TX, 75401.
