"Thkinking of you all at this most difficult time . Johnnie and Tot have been part of my entire life.....and it's always been Johnnie and Tot, Johnnie and Tot. So it is going to be hard to have to miss half of that phrase. They were a beautiful wonderful sweet couple and I did so love them both. I remember the gool ol' days when Robinson Christmases were filled with huge numbers of families all meeting and yes, I remember Christmases in Johnnie and Tot's house .
Tot was always there with a big hug and making you feel as if you were sooooooooooo special. He even worked on our clock for us(and fixed it good). The last visit with him on the Sun. before he went in the hospital was so special to me. He was as usual thrilled to see us even though he told me he wasn't feeling too good and thought he was trying to have a heart attack. But then he changed the subject and wanted to hear about us. I peeked in his workroom and told him I wondered if he was working on clocks. He said he didn't do that much anymore, but he would fix ours if we needed him to....then told me he wanted to come to my house the next time he was in Paris to see his Mama's sewing machine. I was excited about that. We also talked about seeing Grandmother Robinson's house again--we both would have liked that. He showed me her clock again and told me to look at it--remember it? Sure I told him, I do! So I will miss my Mother's brother and one thing I really regret, is that the time before the last time I saw him, he told me he would like to talk to me about Mother and tell me lots of things about their growing up.....we never got that chance. I think he was about three years old when she was born and looked at her after she was born and said, "she looks like a babydoll" thus she got her lifelong nickname.
I guess I need to look at all the wonderful years he had, never being sick much, driving most of his life, never going in a nursing home, and most of all loving and bragging on his children and Grandchildren. I never visited him when he didn't do that! So I think he had a wonderful full life with Johnnie, his kids and grands, his church, and his extended family and friends ----wish we could all be that lucky!
So good bye Uncle Tot and I'll miss you and saying Johnny and Tot in the same breath. Love and prayers to the family. I love you. Raylene"
