Ellen Marie Atherton, 83, of Greenville, passed away on November 2, 2026 at her home. Visitation will be Friday, November 6 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Service will be held at Coker-Mathews at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 7, 2026. With Mr. Kenny Stone officiating.
Mrs. Atherton was born April 13, 1943 in Celeste, TX to Pauline and Woodrow Townsend. She married Bobby C. Atherton Sr. on July 7, 1959 at Lamar Baptist Church in Greenville, Texas. Ellen worked as a seamstress for Henson-Kickernick and she was a member of Family Fellowship of Greenville.
She is survived by her sons, Woody Atherton & wife Mary of Gatesville and Bobby Atherton Jr. & wife, Regina of Greenville. Grandchildren April and Michael Stapleton, Jennifer, Amanda, Adella, Brittany and Robert Atherton & wife Rebecca and 6 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and 2 sisters.
