Robert was born October 21, 1951, in Fargo, North Dakota to Albert Henry Mahrer and Brunine Giordona Piatti and raised in San Jose, California. After moving to Greenville, Texas, he graduated from Greenville High School in 1969 and earned his bachelor’s degree with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Mathematics from East Texas State University in 1973. A transcript misspelling formed the name “Bobb” that he decided to keep for the rest of his life.
Bobb married Glenda Bryant on August 18, 1973 in Greenville. He was an active member and lector at St. William Catholic Church and a founding member of the Greenville council of the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator of the fourth-degree assembly.
Bobb began his career as a teacher at T.C. Wilemon Junior High School in Waxahachie and Lamar Elementary in Greenville. He completed his master’s degree in Educational Administration in 1975 and was awarded a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Administration and Secondary-Higher Education Curriculum Development from ETSU in 1985. He worked as assistant principal at Sulphur Springs Middle School and principal at Rains High School in Emory.
Bobb was then employed by Texas Instruments and Raytheon as a corporate contract administrator for twenty-five years. After retiring, he returned to his first passion, teaching mathematics at Greenville Middle School for fifteen years.
Bobb is survived by his wife, Glenda; sons, Matthew and Mark; brothers, James, William, and Jerry; sister, Sheryl Mahrer Coffey; and several nieces, nephews, and feline companions. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Maria Mahrer Lollar.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family wishes to thank the medical and hospice staff in Greenville, McKinney, and Plano, the Greenville ISD community, the Knights of Columbus, and the parishes of St. William and St. Joseph for their care, support, and prayers.
