Anne Garber Bowen, Age 81, formerly of Greenville, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at The Village at Richardson. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Wetzel officiating. Interment will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM Saturday prior to service.
Mrs. Bowen was born on February 29, 1928 in Greenville, Texas to Thomas Rufus Garber, Sr. and Elizabeth Moore Garber. Anne graduated from East Texas State Teachers College with Bachelor and Masters Degrees. On August 22, 1969 she married E. A. Bowen, Jr. in Greenville. She taught 4th and 5th grade at Houston Elementary School in Greenville for 37 years. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Altrusa Club. She was also a lifetime member of the PTA and a member of the Greenville Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Greenville.
She is survived by her sister, Bonnie Garber Ethridge of Dallas; nephew Bobby Ethridge of Richardson; nieces Becky Ethridge Brown of Chad, Africa and Jean Garber Magness of Ft. Worth; great-nephews Brian Jones of Marble Falls, Bentley Brown of Atlanta, Georgia, and Aaron Brown of Chad, Africa; great-great-nephews Jordan, Easton, and Garen Jones of Marble Falls; and step-daughter Mary Neal Bowen Stephens of Amarillo.
Her parents, husband, and two brothers, T. R. Garber, Jr. and Lloyd Garber preceded her in death.
Pallbearers will be Robert Butcher, Ronnie Clack, Butch Mitchell, Ralph Stroope, Gary Marrs, and Cedric Mack. James Evans will be an Honorary Pallbearer.
