Mr. Ranly was born August 5, 1934, in Robstown, Texas, to Ben Ranly and Ida Koenig. His family moved to Austin when he was 7 years old. The Austin Country Club was built in his neighborhood and that is where he met and worked for Harvey Penick. Harvey is the person that signed his PGA card. He was the secret Santa for the WCISD for several years. He married Shirley Holey on July 13, 1957, in Dallas, Texas. They met at the Catholic Church in Dallas. Mrs. Ranly said she knew something was going on when he wanted to know what time Mass was. He had a giving heart and always made sure the children were taken care of in the Summer Webb Hill Junior Clinics. He stressed the 5 P’s, Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance.
