Benita Jo Hooten, Age 82, of Greenville passed away the evening of Thursday, December 25, 2008 at her home. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Randy Daw officiating. Interment will follow at East Mount Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hooten was born on October 27, 1926 in Cody, Rains County, Texas to James Thomas Strickland and Braddie E. Goodwin Strickland. On April 18, 1945, she married Joseph Daniel Hooten. Before retiring, she was a cosmetician for Eckerd Drug Store, and she was a member of Johnson Street Church of Christ.
Her survivors include her husband, J. D. Hooten of Greenville; son Tom Hooten and wife, Karen of Tyler; daughter Vonda Kay Rook of Greenville; granddaughters Elizabeth Cassiopeia McLean, Benita Nicole Saunders, and Patricia Kay Santoro; great-grandchildren Christian Jacob Saunders, Andrew Dean Saunders, Deacon Aaron Saunders, Kara Renee McLean, Courtney Elizabeth McLean, and Crew Avery Hayes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Murray in 2000 and Danny in 1945, her parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
