Charles Ray (Charlie) Mayner of Greenville, Texas passed away January 7, 2021 at his home in Greenville. Charlie was born on December 28, 1950 in Greenville to J.H. and Deron Eddington Mayner. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1969. Charlie was manager of the family business, Mayner Produce, until his retirement.
Charlie was known for his passion of American History. He loved his country! He was an avid reader of historical wars, especially the Civil War. He delighted in family vacations through the Smokey Mountains, stopping at every historical site along the way. He kept his family entertained with his singing. His favorite song was “The Yellow Rose of Texas.” He sang it all the way to Nashville and became so confident in his ability that he recorded it at a small studio in Opryland. Needless to say, this tape was what we listened to all the way home to Greenville.
Charlie was very talented at constructing battleships, war planes and aircraft. His home was filled with his handiwork, which he dared his nieces and nephews to touch. Charlie also loved western movies, John Wayne, gunfighter ballads and trail songs.
But Charlie’s strongest passion was his family. He was a devoted son, being his Mother’s caretaker for many years. He never had his own children but adored all of his nieces and nephews and considered them as his own. To them, he was their special “Uncle Charlie.”
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Gerald Mayner and Eddy Mayner. He is survived by nieces Chelsea Perreault and husband, Ray Courtney Larson, Kim Mayner, Grayson Farquhar, Julie Duke, Misty Daniels; nephews Kyle Mayner and Hunter Jennings; and sister-in-law Ginny Mayner.
Our family would like to thank Charlie’s niece, Chelsea, for being his caregiver and her daughters, Layla and Raylee, for being his special buddies. Charlie was such a sweet human being with the kindest heart. He will be sorely missed. See you in Heaven, Uncle Charlie.
No services are planned; Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
