Kay Ann Matthews Stuth, age 85, longtime resident of Greenville, Texas went to be with the Lord on November 14, 2020. She was born to Kelsey and Autrey Matthews on May 16,1935 in Greggton, Texas. Kay grew up in Longview, Springhill, and Winona, Texas and graduated from Winona High School in 1953. She attended East Texas State Teachers College where she graduated with majors in English and Speech Therapy in 1957.

Kay loved the Lord. She believed in a servant heart and took that very seriously. The church family was very important to her. The many years she spent serving as a Moderator for the Presbyterian Women were especially rewarding to her. Little did she know that she would serve as a moderator even into her eighties. She lived to enjoy all the efforts of the church whether it be a bible study, board meeting, or any number of church events/activities, Kay was certain to be involved. She believed that a church family was important to the growth of her own family and that she set the example by living and breathing God’s purpose for the church.

Kay’s music degree served her and the community well. She was the organist at her church for thirty years. In addition to her talents at the organ, Kay spent many afternoons teaching piano to students after school. Her biggest joy was celebrating the efforts of her students by inviting their families to her home for recitals. It is not a surprise that not only did she love showing off her student’s talents, but she also loved to feed them. Kay took special joy in the kitchen creating, preparing and serving others special treats and meals. She was a mean cook and baker of goods. There’s no doubt that this part of her presence will also be missed.

Kay took relationships seriously. She was an avid bridge player and was a member of a bridge club with the same ladies in Greenville for 50 years. If you were a friend of Kay’s you knew it. She knew no strangers and she truly wanted the best for all people. She even talked to the solicitors when they called like they were life-long friends...because to her anyone she met might be her brother or sister in Christ. She took all of us in hoping that we would all join her one day in the presence of the Lord because that is how much she cared about people.

Kay was a devoted wife and mother. She was an angel to her husband Jimmy “JD” Stuth as she supported and cared for him through his 12 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease until his passing in April 2017. She rarely spoke a discouraging word to her boys. And that includes JD. She wanted so badly for them to be happy that she intentionally went about her days to do just that. Her boys are going to miss her, but they know that Kay is always with them, in the same way that their dad, JD, is today. Kay’s purpose in life was to serve others, but her primary focus was on her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Sam Stuth and his wife Suzi, Tom Stuth and his wife Kelly, several nieces and nephews and all her many dear friends. Kay’s husband, Jimmy Don Stuth, her two children Craig and Andrea, her mother and father Kelsey and Autrey Matthews, sister Betty Miller and her husband, Sonny Miller all preceded her in passing.

"Very Special Lady.

Mrs. Stuth was so very kind to the neighborhood kids. She was quick to offer us sandwiches if we were hungry or advise if needed. She never hesitated to call-out/ reprimand Allen Clark and I for our neighborhood mischief as well. She did not miss a thing. Many fond memories of Mrs. Stuth. She had a great sense of humor. My heartfelt condolences to Tom and Sam. Your mother was an extraordinary woman. She will certainly be missed."
