"Coach Walters was a huge influence in my life, as coach and friend. Coach helped me thru some difficult times when I came to Greenville. He gave me strength, guidance, and the will to be the best I could be.

My deepest condolences to Madge and all his family. I KNOW he's missed, and to you I say: Coach Walters truly affected many more of us than you could possibly imagine. May you take comfort in knowing his profound contributions to us all.

With all my love,
Ronnie Merritt, GHS class of 1961 (coached to state long jump championship, 1961, by Coach Bill)"
