Betty Ellen Thornton, 85, of Greenville passed away Monday, February 25, 2019 at her residence. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, March 1, 2019 at the House of Prayer with Rev. Jerry Mizer officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.
Born January 11, 1934 in Story Town, Pennsylvania, Betty Ellen was the daughter of Oliver D. Walters and Hetty Ellen (Barr) Walters. On March 29, 1965 in Bryan County, Oklahoma, she married Marvin Thornton. Betty was a homemaker and was a member of the House of Prayer.
Her survivors include daughter, Teresa Goforth of Point; brothers, Floyd M. Walters of Greenville, Jack Walters of North Carolina, and Dale Walters of Apollo, Pennsylvania; sister, Linda Gohn of Pennsylvania; and grandchildren Jennifer, Justin, Christopher, Ashley, Kaylee, Halie, Bobby, B. J., Aubree, Allison, Tonya, Melaina, Misty, Shelby and Joshua.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 7 brothers and 6 sisters.
Pallbearers will be Justin Blagburn, B. J. Goforth, Christopher Arnwine, Billy Mizer, Jackie Goforth, and Daniel Pochurek.
