Jacob Sikes

Jacob Scott Sikes, 29, of McKinney, formerly of Caddo Mills, passed away on January 17, 2019 at Medical City of Dallas.  Funeral services will be held Monday, January 21, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Highland Terrace Baptist Church with his daddy, Jay Sikes officiating.  Burial will follow at Caddo Mills I.O.O.F. Cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday, January 20, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.

Jacob was born on March 10, 1989 in Greenville, Texas to Jay and Susan Chapman Sikes.  He worked at Stonefield Assisted Living in McKinney as Director of Food Services.  He was a member of Paradise Baptist Church of Caddo Mills.

Jacob loved life.  He loved to cut up, laugh, and yes, prank!  He was good at it too!  He loved fishing and hunting, sports, cars, motorcycles, television, and video games, just to name a few.  We raised Jacob right; he was a huge dog lover.  He cherished Daisy and she loves him, even having separation anxiety.  His beloved Kristy brought Gus into his life and Jacob quickly became very attached to him.  In fact, Gus became his registered emotional support dog.  For real!

Jacob cherished his craft of cooking and was very skilled.  He actually spent a couple of months as a private chef for a NBA basketball player.  As a chef in Frisco, he regularly cooked for Dak Prescott and Tyron Smith, as well as other Cowboy players.  After his life became consumed with the long hours of being a chef in a restaurant, he took the position as Director of Food Services serving the elderly at Stonefield.  His first task was successfully converting the kitchen from boxed/canned meals to fresh cooked meals using the best of fresh ingredients.  He felt these people had value and needed to be fed properly.  Unfortunately, his health disabled him to continue his work at Stonefield.

At the age of 12, Jacob accepted the Lord Jesus as his Savior. As with all believers, he did not become perfect, he still had struggles as we all do, but he became forgiven and redeemed.  In his early twenties, while a counselor at a youth camp, Jacob surrendered to ministry.  He did not become a vocational minister.  He became a minister in the secular world.  He ministered to the elderly by feeding them what they deserved, he fed the poor at the city dump in Guatemala City, he ministered to all those who cared for him at Baylor and Medical City.  When Jacob came in with his humor and teasing, he put a smile on their faces, as well as many others who were scared and downtrodden as they were there battling cancer also.

Jacob loved his family so much.  We liked to have never gotten him to move out!  Over the last 18 months, the Lord has blessed us with so many special times, even in the midst of the battle.  He is greatly loved by his family.  We will all do our very best to help his baby girl, “Bug” as he called her, to know her fun, loving daddy.

Jacob was never sick for more than 24 hours at a time growing up.  He would spend one day in bed, and he would be well.  You could count those times on one hand.  On August 4, 2017 he was diagnosed with leukemia.  From never being sick to his first hospital stay of 16 days was very hard for him, but he fought hard.  In January, 2018, he was deemed cancer free.  On August 15, 2018 Jacob was told the cancer had returned.  He fought a valiant fight and we could not be more proud of him.  On January 17, 2019 Jacob beat the leukemia FOREVER!  He is with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, never to hurt again.

Jacob is survived by his parents, Jay and Susan Sikes of Caddo Mills, wife, Kristy Howell of McKinney; daughter, Evelyn Rose Sikes of McKinney; sister, Shea Ivy and husband, Kris of Caddo Mills; grandparents, Barbara Sikes of Greenville, Lester and Joy Chapman of Caddo Mills, Linda Sikes of Garland; mother-in-law, Kitty Howell of Frisco; nieces, Chloe and Cadlyn Ivy of Caddo Mills; sister-in-law, Lesley and husband, Dru Herring of Burleson; nephews, Christian Tran and Dylan Herring of Burleson.

He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Bill Sikes.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials to be made at the American National Bank of Texas, in the name of Jacob’s daughter, Evelyn Sikes.
