Ruben A. Gutierrez, 85 of Celeste, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, passed away in Celeste, Texas on Tuesday, April 11, 2017. A memorial service will be held 5 P.M., Friday, April 14, 2017 at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Father Loyd Morris officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. A private family burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Chicago Ridge, Illinois.
Mr. Gutierrez was born in Topeka, Kansas on September 15, 1931 to Vincente Gutierrez and Guadalupe Toledo. He married Diane Elizabeth Clement in Chicago, Illinois on August 20, 1954. He worked as a welder for 43 years at Elkay Manufacturing and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of St. Williams Catholic Church in Greenville.
He is survived by his son, Ruben J. Gutierrez and wife, Denise of Conyer, Georgia, daughter, Linda Baker and husband, Stephen of Celeste, brothers, Robert Gutierrez, Vincent Gutierrez, Ebodio Gutierrez and Daniel Gutierrez, sister, Marcella Garcia, grandchildren, Richard Orange, Alexandria Moreno, Jeffrey Gutierrez, Timothy Gutierrez and Kassandra Gutierrez, great-grandchildren, Madison Orange, Nathan Selvaggi, Jeovoni J. Gutierrez and numerous nieces and nephews in Chicago.
He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and siblings, Mary Luka, Fernando Gutierrez, Socorro Garcia and Chita Garcia.
Honorary pallbearers are Ruben J. Gutierrez, Richard Orange, Stephan Baker, Timothy Gutierrez, Jeffrey Gutierrez, Nathan Selvaggi and Greg Shivers.
