Alfred M. Powell, 92, of Caddo Mills, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Legend Healthcare. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday in the Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Brent Grissom and Pastor Butch Bruton officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
Born August 4, 1924 in the Peniel Community of Greenville, Alfred was the son of Thomas Anson Powell and Vera Medith (Farrar) Powell. On June 18, 1944, in Quinlan, he married Margie Mable Browning. Mr. Powell was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Greenville and a member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge.
His survivors include his sons Michael Powell and wife, Kim of Caddo Mills and Dewayne Powell and wife, Rita of Greenville; daughters Lynda Howard and husband, David of Greenville and Fredna Brown and husband, Gaylord of Liberia, Africa; sisters Lavena Earwood and Maxine Harris Walker both of Redding, California; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Lloyd Powell and sister Rogene Erwin.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Howard; Jansen Powell, Jentry Powell, Jared Powell, Joel Powell and Josh Denman.
