Chief Master Sergeant Billy C. Johnson USAF (retired)

Full military memorial service for CMSG Billy C. Johnson will be held 10:00 A.M., Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Highland Terrace Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Couch and Rev. John Foster officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 P.M. at D/FW National Cemetery.

On March 2, 2016, after losing a hard fought battle with cancer, Chief Johnson died peacefully at home, at the age of 67, surrounded by his loving family. He was dearly loved by all that knew him.

He was born on December 31, 1948, in Skipperville, AL, to Frank and Dorothy Johns Johnson. He graduated Ozark High School and enlisted in the Air Force in 1969.

On December 26, 2010, he married Joyce Thomason Hockett in Farmersville, Texas.

As Chief of Logistics in Big Safari, he retired from the military in 1989 and again from Civil Service in October 2007. Billy Johnson embodies the Big Safari logistician. His drive and determination to get things done and get them done right lends credence to the logistical motto “The Difficult We Do Daily, The Impossible Just Takes a Little Longer.” He later went on to work as a manager for SNC Greenville, retiring in 2010.

Along with his wife, Joyce, he is survived by his mother, daughters, Tonya Patterson and husband, Kyle and Felicia Hockett, granddaughters, Nicole Gregory and husband David and Danielle Patterson, sister, Judy Thorpe and husband Mack, brother, Rodney Johnson and wife Karen all of Skipperville, Alabama and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and his first wife, Kay.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation at http:/www.the.mmfr.org

The family wishes to thank Dr. Brian Berryman and staff at the Texas Oncology Blood and Marrow Transplant Services and VITAS Hospice Care for the excellent care they gave Billy.

"Hey Magic Man,

Thanks for being my friend and mentor in Big Safari ways. After all the accolades are over, and there will be many, your life will have had a SIGNIFICANT impact on numerous Loggies who will strive to uphold your "support the warfighter at all cost" standards and your legacy will live on through those folks.

Rest in Peace Billy-richly deserved rest(but way too soon)),

We'll ALL miss you dearly,

Tom Coffield"

"Eielison AFB Alaska, 230pm. My ops officer informs me the next days mission requires a receiver that is not on the base. I called Det 2 not expecting to reach anyone at 545 on a Friday. Chief Johnson answers the phone and immediately understands the urgency of our next day's mission. He drove the part to DFW and put it on the Red Eye. Result, another successful Rivet Joint mission accomplished, a direct result of Chief Johnson's willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty. It was a privilege to know and work with Billy."
