Maxine Ann (Lacy) Day

Maxine Ann (Lacy) Day, 77 of Greenville went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 12, 2015.  She was born to Virgil Lacy, Sr. and Joann Lacy in Shreveport, Louisiana on December 29, 1937.  Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Shaun Stubblefield officiating.  Interment will be in Tidwell Cemetery.  Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home

In 1957, she married John T. Day, Jr.  They had three children.  In 1975, they moved from Shreveport, Louisiana to Greenville, Texas.  She owned Ardis Heights Grocery from 1978-1999.  She was proud to have the biggest and best Texas burger in town.  To the day she passed, she still had customers talking about how they missed her Texas burger.  After closing the store she worked another 10 years for the Hunt County Clerk’s Office before retiring.

She was also a member of Citizens On Patrol in Greenville.  She enjoyed driving the car in the Christmas and 4th of July parades.  She loved all the friends she made and was very proud to be a member of this organization.

After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren, family and friends.  She also loved playing computer games with her sisters, watching her birds outside of her window and reading her newspapers in the morning and her Bible every night.  Before her health failed, she would participate in monthly retirement luncheons.

Maxine had many names she went by-granny, mama Day, Macky, Sis and Mother.  No matter what we called her, we will all dearly miss her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Day, Jr., father, Virgil Lacy, Sr., mother, Joann Lacy and brother, Virgil Lacy, Jr.

Survivors include her son, John T. Day, III; daughters, Diane Moore and husband, Jerry and Sharon Mitchell and husband, Buddy; grandchildren, Richard Mitchell, Jr., Steven Glover, Michael Moore, Timothy “TJ” Mitchell, Natalee Burdette, Matthew Moore and Lacy Moore; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dan Cooper, Buddy Oxford, Dan Turrentine, Chris McCaslin, Richard Calendar and Wesley Russell.

"Tears flooded me today as I fondly reflected on many precious memories. You took me into you heart, your life, your family and your home. You were such a sweet presence, all the time, no matter what was going on. Not once did I ever hear you say anything other than positive words and wise advice. I loved hanging out with you at your store, helping you work wasn't like work at all because your heart was in your work and I'd do something funny and we'd laugh & laugh. Making sandwiches with you was always the treat of the day. You've certainly left a beautiful legacy. Such a caring wife, loving Mother and devoted 100% all around friend...just a beautiful soul! I was very blessed to have known you in life. Through the tears, I celebrate your life today. If I could have one more chance to speak to you, I would say "thank you for the beautiful way you touched my life!""
