Dorothy Nell (McNatt) Ackles of Greenville, slipped quietly into the open arms of the Lord on October 20, 2014.  She was born in Greenville on October 8, 1924 and raised by her beloved “Papa” Floyd McNatt.  She was a member of Gussie Nell Davis’ original Flaming Flashes drill team while in high school and later attended East Texas State Teachers College.  She met Gene Ackles of Charleston, WVA at the USO during WWII while stationed at Majors Field, and they were married on October 14, 1944 before he left for his tour of duty with the 8th Air Force.  She was a longtime employee of First Greenville National Bank and was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church before moving to Garland, where she became a member of Woodcreek Church in Richardson, TX.

Her beloved family includes son Richard and wife Myra; son Alan and wife Donna; grandson Josh and wife Alexis and great-grandsons Logan, Lincoln and Levi; grandson Jensen and wife Danneel and great-granddaughter Justice; granddaughter MacKenzie and husband Jeremy Stauffer and grandson Pierson; and extended families in Atlanta and Las Vegas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene, in December 2001.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 25 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with graveside services to follow at 12:30 PM at Memoryland Memorial Park.  Dr. Bill Brewer and Dr. Mark Engelthaler will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Richard Ackles, Alan Ackles, Josh Ackles, Jensen Ackles, Jeremy Stauffer and Bob Boatright.

“Gran” as her family called her, will be remembered as a devoted Christian woman who loved her family, her friends, her Bible, her hymns and her country.  An exemplary wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, she was a prayer warrior for all of us through the years.  She was just as beautiful inside as she was on the outside.  Thanks Mom for your example, your patience and for so many sweet memories.  You will live in our hearts forever.

"I never met Mrs. Ackles, but I have heard of her devotion to her Lord and her family. I have met her grandson Jensen and have heard him speak of the example she set for the family. She is now resting in the arms of her Lord and leaves her testimony and love for her family and friends to remember her by. I will get to meet her one day when the Lord calls me home. Sending sympathy and Christian love to all who loved her"
