Jim was born August 19, 1931 in Cash, Texas to Walter Albert Bobbitt and Glorene Polk Bobbitt. He married Sara Dunaway on March 1, 1974.
For twenty years, Jim proudly served his country in the US Air Force. He retired as a Master Sargent in 1967. After returning to Greenville, he worked in law enforcement for Hunt County Sheriff’s Office and Hunt County District Attorney’s Office. For his last working years he was a familiar face at Henley Hardware. After retirement, Jim with the help of his wife Sara, sons and grandsons built a cabin on family property in Arkansas. His time at home in Texas was spent enjoying his wood shop and grandchildren.
Family gatherings were one of Jim’s favorite things. He loved having his large, rowdy family come for a meal. Jim was proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, but above all that they had established Christian homes.
Jim was a faithful member of Kavanaugh United Methodist Church where he served on several committees.
Jim is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sara, son Mike Bobbitt and wife Lea Ann of Greenville, son Joe A. Bobbitt and wife Cathy of Caddo Mills, son Bobby Nguyen of Rowlett, daughter Susie Argil and husband Ben of Kerrville, Texas, daughter Lori Dunaway of Rockwall, and daughter Kelli Rial and husband Bill of Greenville, 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
