James Herd

James Ray Herd, 85, of Greenville died the night of February 11, 2008, at Clyde Copser Veteran Nursing Home in Bonham.  Funeral services are at 3 p.m., Thursday, February 14, 2008 at the chapel of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home in Greenville, Texas.  Rev. Merlyn Klink will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery.

Son of John Clint and Ida Lou Seaborn Herd, he was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Central, SC.  On September 25, 1947, he and Oleta Howell were married in Greenville.  Mr. Herd served in the U.S. Army, 25^th Division, during World War II.  He retired from E-Systems on November 1, 1982, and was owner-operator of J. R. Herd Beverage until his health failed.  Mr. Herd was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving are his wife of Greenville; two sons, James E. Herd of Florida and Chris D. Herd and wife Jeanna of Greenville; a daughter, Patricia H. Wineinger of Houston; brothers George Harold Herd of Norris, S.C., John Clint Herd Jr. of Fullerton, CA, and Herbert Roy Herd of Panhandle; two sisters, Martha Pauline Whitted and Rachel Edna Phillip, both of Greenville, S.C.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father- and mother-in-law, Walter and Willie Howell; a son, Philip Ray Herd in 1948; and a brother, John Joseph Herd in 1985.

Pallbearers are Nick Gilliam, Craig Wineinger, Justin Samples, Johnny Lewis, James Herd and Barry Joe Herd.
