"Dear Yancy and Cheryl Hartgrove,

I am so sorry for your loss. Doug and Cheryl were my best friends in high school. He was such a good person back then, I know he became a man of excellence as he matured into a man. I have not been in touch with the Wehmeyer family for many years and hope you will relay my condolences to them. The world is minus one really good man. The Bernhardt family will continue to keep you all in our prayers during this difficult time.

However, there must be some solace knowing that Doug was simply to beautiful a person to continue on earth. Heaven probably needed him more. I will always have good thoughts and memories of him. God is good - all the time.

I would love to hear from Cheryl Wehmeyer-Hartgrove if she would like to reconnect after she has had time to rest and grieve. Please feel free to give my home phone number and email address to her.

Sincerely,
Tamra Bernhardt-Mascorro

"Dear Family of Doug,

My name is Tom Scanio. I was a co-worker of Doug. I will truly miss him. Doug was always interesting. He seemed remarkably well grounded and even keeled. He had an good sense of humor. Doug truly enjoyed his work and its challenges. He enjoyed the puzzles that software development inevitably brings. I know that he was active in the community.

Doug was quite capable in his craft. His contributions to the company over the years formed an impressive body of work. We knew we could always depend on him. I'm sure that all of you must have felt the same. His legacy will live on in our products.

I know that Doug had a hard life physically. He bore it well at work. I always admired him for that. I'm sure that he felt poorly many days but I never heard him complain. He persevered through it and was an example to all of us. I know that life isn't fair but it always seemed that Doug didn't deserve the issues that he dealt with so well.

I hope that his passing was peaceful – for him and all of you. I know that you will miss him. I hope that these words will help. I know that he is at peace and pain-free now. Doug was a good person. You have my deepest sympathies.

Sincerely,
Tom Scanio"
