Lotha Lu Powell Moore passed away 4 March 2012 at the age of 96 at her home in Greenville with her family by her side. Lotha was born September 25, 1915, in the northwestern Hunt County farming community of Dulaney to Walter Allen and Georgia Gertrude Mitchell Powell. As a young woman, she moved to Greenville to work, and there on a blind date, she met the young man who would become her husband. She and Jesse David Moore were married April 26, 1938, in Kaufman, Texas. After traveling to various job sites, they settled in Greenville to raise their family. Jesse died following open-heart surgery on March 12, 1986, after almost 48 years of marriage. Lotha was a life-long, faithful Christian and a devoted wife and mother to their three daughters. She created a warm and loving home, was active in many works of the church, and was involved in her daughters’ education, serving in several different capacities during their school years. Lotha was a dearly loved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was the mother of Linda and husband Jerry Parker of Cibolo, Texas; Susie and husband Duane Meyer of Farmers Branch, Texas; and Marcia Moore of Greenville, Texas. Lotha was the beloved grandmother of Jason and wife Samantha Parker of Thrall, Texas; Sara and husband Russell Hopwood of Fort Meade, Maryland; Amanda Meyer of Farmers Branch, Texas; and Jacob Meyer, also of Farmers Branch. She was the great-grandmother of Connor Ray Yarnold and Aidan David Parker, both of Thrall. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 PM on 7 March 2012 at the Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with Rick Henslee, minister of the Kingston Church of Christ, officiating. Mr. Henslee also will officiate at a private interment at Forest Park Cemetery in Greenville. Family members will be available following the memorial service for visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to either of the following, both of which she herself supported faithfully for many years: Worldwide Spanish Literature Ministry, P.O. Box 4650, Wichita Falls, TX 76308 or Central Texas Children’s Home, 123200 Crane Road, Buda, TX 78610.
