Sarah attended East Texas State Teachers College and the University of Texas. While she was in Austin, she found her calling as a photographer when she apprenticed in the Christiansen-Lieberman Studio under Virginia Lieberman. She returned to Greenville and married Paul W. Plunket, Jr. on March 15, 1942, less than three months after the start of the Second World War. Soon after that, she opened a photography studio on Lee Street in downtown Greenville, where she made portraits of the trainees from the Army Air Corps at Majors Field. Paul spent most of the War in Brook General Army Hospital in San Antonio recovering from injuries in an automobile accident, so Sarah visited San Antonio often during that period. After the war, Sarah sold the photography studio and she and Paul started a family. Their daughter Sarah Gertrude (Trudy) was born in 1947 and their son Paul III was born in 1950. In the late 1950ís Sarah started making portraits again in the living room of her home on Walworth Street. In the mid-1960s, she and Paul opened their photography studio on Wesley Street in Greenville and for the next twenty-five years photographed the portraits and weddings of generations of north Texans. At age 68, after years of perfecting her craft as a photographer, she was recognized as a Master Photographer by the Professional Photographers of America. In the early 1990s, Sarah and Paul sold the studio and retired. Her husband Paul died in August of 1996. Sarah was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greenville and in her early 80s, served the church on the Board of Elders.
