Elvie "Tip" Leonard Tipton
3/9/1938 - 5/6/2022

Elvie Leonard (Tip) Tipton, 84, departed this earth on 6 May 2022 with his family by his side and is now enjoying his forever home with his Lord and Savior.

A celebration of Tipís life will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, 21 May, 2022 at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Greenville, Texas with Pastor Matt Beasley and Pastor Billy Walker officiating. The family will receive visitors before the service starting at 2:00 PM.

Tip was born to Elvie Lee and Melba Moose Tipton in Henderson, Texas on 9 March 1938. On 22 October 1960 in Fort Worth, Texas he married Bernice Marie Esters, a girl he worshipped, from a family that adored him and he loved dearly.

In 1961 the newlywed couple moved to Greenville, Texas for a job opportunity. He received his BS in electrical engineering at ETSU. His entire professional career was spent in the defense industry at Ling Temco/LTV/E-Systems working on important products and aircraft that were the most sophisticated in the world. He retired in 1996.

Tip was a longtime member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. He volunteered at the annual Christmas Nativity and was a door greeter each Sunday morning.

He was an active member of Golden Kiwanis, where he participated in delivering meals to the elderly, building ramps, serving at the pancake breakfasts and volunteering at local elementary schools.

Tip was a loving husband, caring dad, avid fisherman and Texas Longhorn & Dallas Cowboy enthusiast.  He also enjoyed camping, gardening, taking long walks in the country and playing games with family and friends.

The family would like to thank the wonderful hospice staff at Ultimate Home Health Care for their care and compassion during this difficult time.

Left to cherish Tipís memory are his wife of 61 years, Bernice Tipton, two daughters, Denise & Mike Gilliland and Laynette & Ron Hammond, one brother, Carl & Crissa Tipton, and three great-grandchildren, Anne, Joel & Nick Gilliland, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lee Roy Tipton.
