Herbert Wayne Foote, 93, of Campbell passed away on January
2, 2021 in Commerce, Texas. He was born
on September 2, 1927 to Carroll Aubrey Foote and Marie Pearl Hartwell Foote in
Winters, Texas. He married his high
school sweetheart, Louise Francis Backus on June 19, 1947 in Campbell,
Texas. Louise preceded him in death on
September 21, 2015. They celebrated 68
loving years together.
Wayne was an auto mechanic at Barkley’s Garage in Greenville
for forty years. He restored vintage
cars and even built a vehicle or two and a few go-carts, much loved by his
grandchildren. He could build or fix
just about anything. He was a loving
father and grandfather and enjoyed growing and sharing vegetables and
watermelons from his garden. He was a
devout Christian who loved sharing the gospel with others.
He is survived by four children: Linda Louise Dawson and
husband, Dennis; John Edward Foote and wife, Martha, Martha Ann Roberts and
husband, Richard, and Carol Elaine Harrison.
Grandchildren include James Dawson and wife, Kristi; David Dawson and
wife, Nicki; Joshua Dawson; Rachel Foote Carter and husband, Chris; Parker
Foote and wife, Jade; Trent Parrish, Paige James and husband, Keith; Wendy
Kessler and husband, Robert; Zachary Harrison, Nicholas Harrison, and Blake
Harrison. In addition, he is descended
by 19 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Carroll
Foote, Jr and wife, Amy, Earl Foote, and two brothers-in-law, Wayne Backus and
wife, Margie; and Dr. Kirby Backus and their families.
Preceding him in death were is parents, his wife, his wife’s
parents, Percy and Ludia Backus, two brothers, Harold Foote and Lynn Foote,
brother’s-in-law, Henry Backus, Thomas Backus and Mason Backus and
sister’s-in-law, Doris Foote, Paula Backus, Hortencia Backus and Nelda Backus.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a memorial service will be
scheduled at a later date. Burial will
be in Brigham Cemetery in Campbell.
Coker-Mathews Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
