6/12/1926 - 11/12/2018

Dorothy Mae (Holbert) Stephens of Greenville, TX passed away Monday, November 12, 2018 at the age of 92.  Dorothy was born in Quinlan, Texas, on June 12, 1926, to Ephriam Bradley and Linnie Eora Holbert.  She was 1 of 7 children and lived in Quinlan until the 1940s when her family moved to Corpus Christi, TX.  Her generosity to family members started at an early age when in her 20ís she secured a home loan for her parents to help purchase their family home.  Realizing the importance of education, she also helped put two of her brothers through college.  As a single woman, Dorothy worked outside the home at Lichtensteinís Department Store and later at Glasscock Drilling Company.  She was an active member at the Second Baptist Church of Corpus Christi where she met Bill (Billy) Stephens and married in 1958.  With great joy they raised one daughter, Susan Elizabeth.  In the early 1970s they moved to Flour Bluff, into the home that Bill and Dorothy built themselves.

Dorothy loved reading, bird watching, singing in the church choir and cooking.  Her family will always remember her award-winning coconut cream and chocolate cream pies.  In later years Dorothy and Bill enjoyed taking trips to piece together their family genealogy.  They had soft hearts and even built a house for a single mother and her children across the street from them.  Their love for family, community, but most importantly for the Lord, showed in their daily lives.

After the passing of her daughter in 2000 and her husband in 2002, Dorothy moved to Greenville, TX to join her sister Jean.  Dorothy was an active member of the Highland Terrace Baptist Church until she moved to Harrison House in later years. Dorothy will be remembered for her kindness and her love for the Lord.

Dorothy is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.  Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Ephriam and Linnie Holbert, husband Bill Stephens, daughter Susan Stephens, and siblings Homer, Francis, Billy, Louise, Joe and Betty Jean.

Visitation will be held 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Thursday, November 15, 2018, at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home, 5100 I-30 Frontage Rd, Greenville, TX.  A private burial will take place at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi where she will be laid to rest with her husband and daughter.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be given to Samaritan's Purse or the Bill Glass Prison Ministry.
