Peggie Darby

Peggie Spradling Darby, 86, of Greenville, passed away on August 31, 2018 at her residence following a brief illness surrounded by her family.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Chris Campbell, Rev. Candice Womack and officiating.  Services are under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.


Peggie was born December 22, 1931 in Greenville, Texas to Sidney and Hazel Trucks Spradling.  She graduated from Greenville High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from East Texas State University, now Texas A&M University Commerce.  She married Danny Dow Darby in Greenville on February 28, 1953.  After marrying, they moved to Lawton, Oklahoma where Danny served in the Army.  Upon completing his military service, they moved back to Greenville in 1955, where Peggie has resided for nearly 63 years.


Peggie went back to school to study to become an interior designer.  In 1978 she obtained her ASID and opened her design studio Distinctive Decors in Greenville.


She stayed active by serving on various boards and clubs in Greenville.  She was an original member of the Spade and Trowel Garden Club for 60 years, Junior Pallas Club, served on the charter revision committee for the City of Greenville, Clean Greenville, served on the Hunt County Regional Foundation Board of the hospital, board member of the Greenville Entertainment Series and Dallas Symphony Series in Greenville and an avid bridge player playing in two Bridge Clubs.  She served in various capacities while being a member of United Presbyterian Church for 60 years, by serving as an Elder, served on the Pastor search committee, taught Sunday School and was a member of the Church Circle.


Peggie was a loving wife and mother who was kind, classy and elegant.


Peggie is survived by her children, Andrew Darby of Greenville, Douglas Darby of Garland, Dana Darby of Dallas; brother, Hal Spradling of Toronto, Canada; sister, Linda McAnaney of Pottsboro; nephews, Hal Spradling, Jr. and Dr. Stephen McAnaney and niece, Donna Graff.


She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brothers, Jimmie Ray Spradling and James Spradling.


In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made in Peggie’s memory to the United Presbyterian Church, 5905 Stonewall, Greenville, Texas  75402.
