Davis was born May 7, 1951, in Decatur, Texas, to Junior Samples and Mordell Meekins Samples. He married Faye McNorton on August 29, 1980, in Greenville, Texas. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He worked in the electric utility industry for Texas-New Mexico Power and later worked for Frito-Lay for 25 years. He also served as fire chief for the Lone Oak and Cash Fire Departments. He was of the Baptist faith.
Davis will be remembered as a loyal, caring, and helpful man who was always willing to lend a hand. A simple man at heart, he worked hard, loved his family deeply, and found great joy in many things, including animalsâ€"especially cattle and other livestock. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, Faye, watching NASCAR, and attending sporting events.
Davis is survived by his wife, Faye Samples; son, Mark Samples and his wife, Janet; stepdaughters, Christy Hernandez and her husband, Gary, and Sheila Sherrin and her husband, Ricky; brothers, Joe Samples and his wife, Sue, and John Samples and his wife, Debbie; sisters, Tyoka Green and Tywona Durham and her husband, Karl; grandchildren, Emma Samples, Zachary Sherrin, Bradley Sherrin, Ashley Sherrin, and Nikki Harris; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Tyrona Smith.
Pallbearers will be Mark Eldridge, Gary Hernandez, Aidan McDowell, Perry Sandlin, Herbert Smith, and Ted Zelasney.
