Wayne Mush, as he was affectionately known to family and friends, was a Greenville native and retired businessman.
He was born September 18, 1947 in Greenville, Texas to Marshall Wayne ''Mush'' McHenry, Sr. and Treva Glass McHenry. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1966 and served in the U.S. Navy from July 1967 to March 1971. In 2024, he was awarded the Congressional Veteran Commendation presented by Congressman Keith Self. The Commendation was received for his bravery and involvement in a 1968 military Russian interception of Seaboard World Airlines Flight 253A bound for South Vietnam. Wayne and 214 other American troops were detained in Russia for several days before being safely released. After discharge from the U.S. Navy, Wayne returned to Greenville, attended East Texas State University and joined his father in running the family business, McHenry Locksmith Shop.
Wayne and Lillian Josey were married on December 31, 1976, in Greenville and would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in December of this year.
He remained in the locksmith business for 47 years. As a second-generation locksmith, he performed commercial and residential locksmith services specializing in safes. Semi-retired as a locksmith, Wayne went to work for the U.S. Postal Service in 2007, retiring in 2023. For several years, he was a member of the Greenville Veteran of Foreign Wars and the Noon Rotary. Wayne was a lifetime member of the Greenville Disabled American Veterans Chapter 81 and a 50 plus year member of Independent Order of Oddfellows.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian McHenry; brother, David McHenry and wife, Terry; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Judy McHenry Bryant.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to DAV Chapter 81, 2502 Church St., Greenville, Texas 75401.

Lake Jackson, TX Wednesday, July 15, 2026 I was so sorry to hear of David’s passing. I had hoped to see both of you again before one of us left this chapter.I have so many fond memories of he and David and Judy when we were very young. They are the cousins I got to see most, although none of our families could travel much during those growing up years.
I remember Wayne as being quiet and steady and kind, and most like his dad. When he and I spoke a month or so ago, it was a great memory boost and I think a God thing, as we had not visited in so many years. We were saying hello and goodbye at the same time.
Trust me when I say his spirit is still close. He will be looking after you and you will feel his presence. Take care and know that you still have a job to do, and he will still be by your side. He will be missed.
