Dr. Charles William Haney Jr. (Chet) ascended to his heavenly home on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at the age of 63.

Chet is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Terri, his three daughters Amanda Reimold, wife of Carl Reimold, Sara Haley, wife of Joe Haley, and Angela Butler, wife of Ben Butler, and his 11 grandchildren Aidan, Ella, Lily, Ruby, Katherine, Margaret, William, Walter, Wyatt, Fordham, and Graham. He is also survived by his sister, Lori Ellison, wife of Robert Ellison, and their two children, Hunter and Emmalee. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles William Haney Sr. (Chuck) and Glynda Lee Haney.

Chet was born in Waco, Texas on August 29, 1959 to Chuck and Glynda Haney. He graduated from Fort Worth Southwest High School before leaving home to attend Baylor University. Chet studied Business and Religion and played football for the Baylor Bears football team and graduated with his bachelor's degree in 1981. While at Baylor, he met Terri Woolley and on May 15, 1982, he and Terri married in Mesquite, Texas. They welcomed three daughters - Amanda, Sara, and Angela - in the years to come. Chet graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1989 with his Doctorate in Ministry and dedicated his life to the service of Christ Jesus by preaching the message of the Gospel. He passionately served the congregations of Midway Baptist Church of Big Spring (1988-1990), First Baptist Church of Woodville (1990-1996), Parkside Baptist Church of Denison (1996-2013), Highland Terrace Baptist Church of Greenville (2013-2022), and First Baptist Church of Collinsville (2023).

Chet was devoted to his life of pastoral ministry, being a loving husband, father, and friend, and spreading the Gospel throughout the nations. He was unwaveringly passionate about reaching as many people as possible and sharing with them the goodness of salvation through Jesus Christ. Chet was an avid guitar player, outdoor enthusiast, parody song writer, and eloquent speaker who had a way of connecting with his congregations through the scripture so that they may feel the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the opportunity to know him.

A celebration of Chet's life is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Highland Terrace Baptist Church in Greenville with visitation scheduled for 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Dr. Ernest Easley and Carl Reimold will officiate. Pallbearers will be Ben Butler, Paul Blakely, Mike Davis, Joe Haley, Britt Harris, and Mike Waters.

We moved to Greenville from Tyler and was having trouble finding a church home. Upon discovering Highland Terrace Baptist, we fell In love Bro. Chet and knew this is where we wanted to be. He made us feel like we had known him forever. We were so welcomed by him and the congregation. All the time he was there, he took us under his wing and we really appreciated the love he gave to us. Bro. Chet was an amazingly caring, godly man that loved the Lord. He was always glorifying the Lord during all trials he was experiencing with health. He will be sadly missed but what a joy to be in the presence of the Almighty Father. Our prayers for all the family during these days to come

I've known and loved Chet since he was a high school student in Prattville, Alabama. He was a mighty warrior for Jesus and we've served Jesus together from Texas all the way to the Former Soviet Union. I've been blessed to serve with him in Woodville, Denison, and Greenville.
I was once asked if I could choose one person by my side to attack hell, who would it be? My immediate answer was "Chet Haney." I'm going to miss my gentle giant of a friend, but I know he is rejoicing in the presence of Jesus - the One he served for so long.

    Terri and girls,

Chet was very gifted in teaching and preaching. His passion for others to come to know the Lord. We will always remember him best for the loving way he pastored us and all the families while at Parkside Baptist. We all knew how devoted he was to you and the girls. We know he will be missed terribly. Until we see him again. Our love and prayers to your family.

I am not sure I would have made it through Greek at Baylor under Dr. Cutter if it was not for Chet. From those days of trying to survive in class together, Chet holds a very special place in my heart. It was an honor to serve the Lord by His side (often at a distance). I admire his courageous, bold leadership, commitment to excellence, and passion for advancing the Kingdom of God. I already miss him. In my mind, Chet stands head and shoulders above his peers leading by his example. Well done, my friend.
