Carl B. Reese passed away July 21, 2010 in Greenville, TX. He was born Dec. 1, 1939 in Houston to Joel R. and Alice Katherine Hoza Reese. A 1958 graduate of Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas, he served in the United States Air Force. He married Alice Clark on June 5, 1964.
In 1987 Carl and Alice restored the former Greenville Dr Pepper Bottling Company building and turned it into their residence.
After 32 years as a Program Administrator/Master Scheduler, Carl retired from Raytheon in 1999 and became a full-time volunteer.
Known as “Mr. Clean” during his decades of involvement with Keep Greenville Beautiful, Carl served as a board member and chairman of the Adopt-a-Spot program. He headed local participation in the Great Texas Trash-off and and Make a Difference Day events.
He volunteered with Drug Free Greenville’s Kite Fly, the Red Ribbon distribution and annual walkathon.
Carl was a driver for the American Cancer Society Road to Recovery and participated in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Greenville.
He graduated from the Greenville Citizen’s Police Academy and was a longtime Neighborhood Block Watch captain during National Night Out.
A former president of Greenville Kiwanis Golden K, Carl was the Lt. Governor for Division 32 during 2008-2009. In 2010 he was awarded one of Kiwanis International Foundation’s highest honors, the George F. Hixson Fellowship.
With his fellow Kiwanians, he participated in multiple projects for Meals on Wheels, FISH, United Way, Women in Need, Habitat for Humanity, the Hunt County Fair, Audie Murphy Cotton Museum, Aunt Char’s Kids Zone, Tools for School and food ministry Hands of Compassion. He worked with the Kiwanis youth organizations, K-Kids, Builders Club and Key Club.
In 2005 Carl received the Greenville Chamber of Commerce Worthy Citizen Award.
An avid golfer and certified clubmaker, Carl was a 15-year volunteer for the annual Byron Nelson Classic Golf Tournament. He also caddied for his grandson Reese at junior golf tournaments throughout Texas.
He is survived by his wife Alice, daughter Erin Christina Reese Ramsey and husband Lance James Ramsey and grandson Reese Wilson Ramsey of Austin, brothers Ron Reese of Holly Lake Ranch, Jody Reese and wife Margy of Dallas, Steve Reese and wife Virginia of Lewisville and sister Anna Belle Griffith of Campbell. He is also survived by nephew Tim Reese and wife Sara, nieces Alicen Griffith, Kelly Tylenda and husband Jason, Stacey North and husband Bill and Shannon Fitzgerald and husband Ryan and a new generation of great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Fri. July 23 at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Sat. July 24 at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with burial at Memoryland Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Courns, Len Veak, Bill Rapp, Bill Baker, John Ballard and Cliff Riggins. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Greenville Kiwanis Golden K.
