Muriel Marie Pearce, 96, of Celeste died the afternoon of March 4, 2010, at Hunt Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 6, 2010, in the Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Dr. James Ralson and Rev. Jim Sherwin officiating. Burial will follow at Celeste Cemetery.
Daughter of A. M. and Eva Frances Lunsford Hackney, she was born September 30, 1913, in Hunt County. On May 21, 1959, she married Dalton Pearce in Durant, Oklahoma. Mrs. Pearce retired from J.R. Love Co. in Celeste with 14-1/2 years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Celeste. She lived a long healthy life and saw many changes during her lifetime, from the white cotton fields of northeast Texas to men walking on the moon. She loved traveling extensively during her later years and would be ready to go on a trip with only a little notice to primp and put on her pretty clothes. She was an avid Dallas Mavericks’ fan.
Surviving are a son. W. F. “Buddy” Hopewell and wife Linda of Greenville; daughters Marilyn E. Hopewell of Rockwall and Shirley Hopewell Fanning and husband Jack; sister-in-law Martha Jo Hackney of Greenville; grandson Travis Green; two granddaughters, Karen Hopewell McGee and Sharen Hopewell Ozarowski; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Elliott Hopewell; brother Monroe Hackney and sister Maggie Martin.
Pallbearers are Shane MeGee, Keith Ozarowski, Jimmy Hackney, Richard Lyday, Gene Martin and Travis Green.
