Jean Mitchell, 88, of Greenville, died, Monday, February 1, 2010, at Homestead of McKinney. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 6, 2010, at Ridgecrest Baptist Church under direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with Rev. Butch Bruton officiating. Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park.
Mrs. Mitchell was born in Greenville on August 19, 1921, the daughter of George Newton Jordan and Myrtle Long Jordan. On February 4, 1939, she married Aubrey A. “Hoss” Mitchell in Greenville. She was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church and a former employee of Shelby Sinclair Insurance Agency and the Flour Mill.
She is survived by sons, Chuck Mitchell and wife, Stacey of Galveston and Don Mitchell of Greenville; granddaughter, Stefani Freeman and husband Keith of McKinney; great-grandchildren, Valerie and Brandon Freeman of McKinney; and sister, Doris Williams of Greenville.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995; parents; aunt and uncle who raised her, John and Ethel Hayter; sisters, Patsy Martin, Virginia Wood and Bobbye Strong; brother, Marvin Jordan; and grandson, Brandon Mitchell.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Glen Mills, Benjie Bryant, Jim Mills, David Harmon, Tip McNatt and Randy Meeks. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Wall and Paul Scott.
Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday at the funeral home.
